This week marked the further initiation of Winter sports and even of one Spring's competitions when the Wrestling and Baseball schedules were released. Beyond match dates, the press release for the Wrestlers also included a myriad of rankings. You can read more about each by clicking the links!
Moving from the Men to the Women, the Soccer team got the first chance to beat Western Illinois and didn't miss the target, taking them 2 - 0 in Macomb. They closed out the home schedule this afternoon against Fort Wayne with their biggest win of the season score wise, 4 - 0.
Likewise, the Volleyball team continued to roll with a victory over the Leathernecks last Sunday and SDSU on Tuesday night. They had their second to last home date of the schedule against South Dakota and got shut out by the Coyotes.
The lady golfers finished out their fall slate with a team championship in Tacoma, WA and an individual medal earned by Natalie Roth. They're now off until mid February while their male counterparts close out their Autumn play with a three day tournament in North Carolina.

Timberwolves
The Wolves started their highly anticipated season on Wednesday night in San Antonio. It was troublingly reminiscent of last season and they fell to the Spurs without their best player and their starting Point Guard. Not a great start!
It was a little better when they debuted at home against Ricky Rubio's Utah Jazz. The three key free agent acquisitions all contributed in meaningful ways. Whether it was a clutch three pointer late in the game by Jamal Crawford, a big rebound by Taj Gibson or a steal by Jimmy, they showed why they were brought in by the team operations and were instrumental in a tighter then it should have been win, thanks to a dumb foul by Andrew Wiggins.
It will take several weeks for all the pieces to learn how to play together but they're already showing signs of what they can be. Taking on the Thunder on Sunday Evening will just be the next baby step in their team building and march towards the playoffs!
Dragons
The Dragons Football team not only got their first win in a month, they kept their chances of finishing above .500 alive. That's unlikely but even if they don't reach that level, getting a six touchdown win is almost assuredly the highlight of their season.
Their cohorts from the Volleyball court also managed to finish the week with their first win in a months time. There's probably no equivalent to winning by 42 points but a 3 - 0 victory is not too shabby! Now they get to play host to a pair of matches late next week against Duluth & St. Cloud.
Sorry to rain on the positivity parade but the Soccer team wasn't able to break out of their month long funk. They'll have three more chances to get win number two of the year. As a reward for their work and to relieve any tension I hope they can pull one off!
Cobbers
Not to be too outdone by the Dragons, the Cobbers Football team continued their great year with a 22 point victory over Augsburg. I can't decide if the win is the subplot or Chad Johnson's continued elevation of the Concordia rushing touchdown record. They would say that his individual accomplishment is not as important and I get that but setting a school record is no small thing! Hopefully the two parts can meld into success after their regular season concludes!
The Volleyball ladies had their best week of their season, going 2 - 1 as part of a four match home stand, which concludes Wednesday before their season ends on Saturday. No one wants to be part of a loser filled season but ending on a high note would be a fine consolation.
Likewise with the Soccer team who managed a 1 - 1 record. They have a pair of matches remaining, one at home and the last on the road. Ending well is an important lesson and through all wins and losses in all sports, on all levels, it should still be about the lessons that can be learned through the activities.
