S or N: Cheese Freeze
The classical definition for Slobberknocker is a literal hard hit. I'm going to play off that somewhat in a more figurative manner. While in contrast, and maybe more obviously, the Naw's are things that shouldn't have happened and/or need to change.
While the offense's performance was undeniably disappointing I'm starting with the positive. The defense made it three games in a row with a championship-caliber performance. Being that Green Bay is the best of the opponents over that stretch it's most definitely the most encouraging sign that they may be hitting their stride as the post-season nears.
Also, while I'll never be pleased by a loss - especially to that team - it does secure their standing for the playoffs so that there is no reason to press any of the ailing players into action this Sunday. They should prepare as usual this week but refrain from using any of the guys that couldn't play last night or had to leave at any point during the four quarters for any sort of injury. Then on Sunday turn it into a pre-season game where none of the key players go past the first quarter. I'm trying to turn the lemon into lemonade and with the most important part of the year still ahead that needs to be the priority. Get everyone as right as possible and try to do what the NYG did some years ago!
But aside from calling out specific players that made the defense the lead-off topic, there isn't anything else to be positive about. Since that's just a cheap ploy to stretch I'm going to move onto the downers. It may be a chicken or egg situation but both the play calling and the performance of the offensive-line derailed any chance to capitalize on Green Bay getting suffocated. Maybe the calls would have worked better if Bradbury, Reiff & Elfington had been able to be anything more than turnstiles on the way to the quarterback. Or maybe they would have been less horrendous if the play calls had been less terrible. Who really can know though? Well hopefully the coaches, but beyond that few, if any, people.
Typically I would be more irritated by a loss such as this one but 11-5 is still very possible and the Vikings had tons of chances to tie late and increase the lead earlier. Should they have played better? Absolutely! But the Sun still rose and they still get Chicago on Sunday, so let's try and keep it in perspective.
