When the games were all final on Friday night, the storyline couldn't have been better. The #1 team in the Eastern Dakota Conference getting a chance to raise the trophy against the only team that had beaten them, doing so in both contests. On the other side, it was West Fargo's chance to raise the trophy & complete the sweep. Who would complete the task was what brought the hundreds of fans into the building for the championship on Saturday night. How it played will not soon be forgotten.
The first half was a case study in how teams should match each other with a title on the line. Davies would get the lead, then it would be West Fargo's, then Davies would reclaim it and back and forth and back forth. 18 minutes of see-saw Basketball that finished with the Bulls holding a three point lead.
When play resumed they took that one shot lead and pushed it to the precipice of being too much to come back from. The Eagles fought hard to get back from the edge, tying it with six minutes left. From there they dug even deeper and took the lead for good with less than four minutes remaining. West Fargo continued to battle but the clock became their enemy as they struggled to both get stops & make up the difference. They kept it close to the end, but just couldn't quite regain what had been taken from them.
And so the horn sounded, the Eagles got their vengeance.
