Vikings

It wasn't flawless but I don't knit pick at things that will be corrected as long as the team wins. Check the first pick six of the regular season for all the goodness!

Bison

A bye week for the Football team means that all the rest of the athletes can take center stage!

The men's Golf and Soccer team's did the best work to capitalize on the opportunity. The Link's men finished second as a group while the Soccer team split their two games this week. Playing Minnesota on Friday was a step up in class and showed that they aren't quite up to that task, giving up four goals while scoring zero. When they relaced up Sunday against the visiting Northern Iowa team it was a much more even match, which they showed to be up to the challenge of, winning 2-1. Local Brookelyn Dew assisted on the first goal and put in the second herself. A strong individual showing on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Dragons

Let me get the lowlights out of the way first. The Football team travelled to Duluth for a test against one of the country's best in D2 and got run off the field 60-7. That about speaks for itself I think but isn't the only negative finish for MSUM.

The Golf team finished 7th and the Soccer team dropped their lone match one - nil to Northern State. It wasn't all bad for the Red & Black though.

The Volleyball team took both of their matches 3-0 while both the men's and women's Cross Country teams finished top two in their latest meet.

So while it wasn't exactly a week to write home about, the athletic department had some positive outcomes this week.

Cobbers

The corn cobs got started with a 4 - 1 win by the men's Soccer team, two of which came from Aronah Mukhtar. They followed that up with a 2 - 1 loss against Wisconsin Superior before rebounding against Simpson 3 - 0. Mukhtar hit the back of the net again while the other two goals came courtesy of Tyson Aberle & Austin Peterson.

The Volleyball team followed match 1 by the Soccer team with a 3 - 0 loss to Valley City on Wednesday before losing all three of it's weekend matches.

Also during the weekend both of the Cross Country teams took to running but each finished outside the top two but within the top five. May not be great but those are respectable finishes. In identical fashion both of the Golf teams also finished 3rd (men) and 5th (women).

Which brings us to most people's headliner, the Football team also visited a highly ranked team this week and came home unsuccessful. They didn't get routed by 53 points but an 18 point loss is still a tough pill to swallow.

And that concludes the college section of the activity.

High School Sports

Another week of photos from Soccer fields around the area. West Fargo was one stop while Fargo North was the other before going out to DGF on Friday for one of the best Football games of the year!

I didn't make it there in person but another congratulations to West Fargo Sheyenne for a great win over your cross town rival!

Beyond that, keep checking back for more from fields across our little valley.
