Sunday Round Up

Bison

For my reaction to the Bison Football game last night, check out the latest Pick Six!

Beyond the grid iron, there were some tremendous accomplishments by other NDSU athletes.

The men and women of the Cross Country teams each came back down from Grand Forks with team titles. In addition Camron Roehl was the eight kilometer individual winner and Kelby Anderson won the five kilometer race. They're now off for the next two weeks.

The Volleyball team had a single match over the past week. They handled their business against Omaha 3 - 0. They have a pair of matches between now and next Sunday, both at home.

Meanwhile, the Soccer team travelled out to Macomb to compete on Friday and came back with a 2 - 0 victory. They'll next compete in Fargo against Fort Wayne next Sunday. That's a nice little break for the ladies!

Vikings

Season defining win. That may be what we can say after the Super Bowl but not quite yet. The injury to Rodgers leaves the NFC North open for a new team to be crowned. Preferably the Vikings but if it's the Lions, I could accept that. But for more about the Purple, check out their latest Pick Six!

Dragons

The Dragons had another tough week on the football field, losing 31 - 7 to St. Cloud St. That officially means that they will have no chance to even match their 2016 record. The optimism that I had about them coming into the season was overdone and possibly completely misplaced. More time is required to know for sure.

Beyond the pigskin brigade, MSUM had some positive outcomes of late. Unfortunately that doesn't include the Volleyball team which dropped to two more competitors (Augustana & Wayne State) to put their season record at 7 - 12.

Positivity doesn't encompass the soccer team either, who dropped their lone chance at a victory against Concordia - St. Paul. Which leaves them at one win and 3 ties. Rough.

To my surprise, the Dragons have Swimming & Diving teams and they managed to get their early season schedule to 2 - 0 this week. So that's something to be positive about!

Cobbers

The Cobbs capped their week off with a record setting performance in Football when Chad Johnson set the school record for TD's. He's up to 37 in his career and it's undoubtedly going to get much higher then that! Congratulations!

Beyond Football, the Men's soccer team scratched to an 0-2-1 record since last Sunday while the Women's team 0 - 2 - 0. I'll let you decide which you think is worse!

To round it out, the Volleyball team also went winless this week in two chances.

Timberwolves We're mere days away from the start of the playoff season that will be but that's what we have to look forward to. With an abbreviated pre-season, I'm anxious to see how all the new pieces will play together, starting with a trip to the Kahwi Leonard-less San Antonio Spurs. The real news this week was that Andrew Wiggins finally put pen to paper to seal his next several years with the Wolves. HOWL!
