The Football team closed out their non-conference schedule like they're ready for some real competition. Might have to wait until November and the bus ride down to Brookings but they'll take it one game as a time or may regret not doing so!
Beyond the gridiron gang, there were a few Bison athletics groups with action worth mentioning.
After starting 0 - 8, the ladies of the Pitch have rolled out this week with a pair of wins and may be able to get to 3 straight depending on how they come out on Thursday when South Dakota comes to town.
The Volleyball team has already commenced their conference schedule with a 3 - 1 win last night against in Vermillion and continue it today against the Jacks. They return to friendly confines on Friday against Denver.
The Vikings came back with some ferocity this week. To see the most recent Vikings Pick 6, go here!
The corn heads had a Football bye week this week but that in no way means the campus was quiet. Their Volleyball team were victorious in their first contest of the week, before falling yesterday. They were joined in the positivity column by the Men's Cross Country team who took fourth in their latest invitational. A trio of contests had yet to be completed today but that could end their week on a high note.
After a pair of losses the Dragons football team hosted Concordia St. Paul. It was a matter of MSUM being able to eat up just enough clock over the second half of the game to come away with the narrow 21 - 20. A win is a win but allowing 10 points while scoring none over the second half is a troubling trend for a team that has had some troubling scoring at same or a better clip then their opponents, after the game one blow out that they managed that is.
Save for a single victory by the soccer team, the Dragons had an otherwise abysmal week of athletic outcomes. Not considering the competition level differences, it seems like the Red & Black are at the bottom of the local totem pole.
The Wolves took step one to the playoffs this week as they assembled to meet the media and will begin their condensed (due to Target Center renovations) preseason very soon.
We're in magic number territory ladies & gentleman! I've been glad to stay tuned to the team but have simultaneously been dubious about their prospects of closing out the playoff race. With 6 games to go they just need to avoid going 0-6 and they'll complete one of the greatest turn arounds in franchise history, maybe even MLB history!
