West Fargo Girls

The second day of the preseason is in the books

Soon the rosters will begin to take shape

West Fargo knows who it's cornerstone players are and that there will plenty of opportunities for the rest. Now begins a great two-year window of opportunity for them to add their own pieces to the trophy case.

Here's what coach Benson had to say

As you reflected upon it, is there a highlight or two that stands out from last season?

The one thing that really sticks out to me is how good the top of the EDC has been the last few years. The last three seasons we have had top 10 scoring teams even with playing fewer games due to not making state. The competition has been top notch.

Did you take your team to any camps this past Summer? How did your team benefit from them?

We went to the following team camps: MSUM, Jamestown College, University of Mary, Breakdown Series in Minneapolis, Northern State. The summer is always a great time to experiment with your pieces and see how everything fits together.

Chloe Pfau & Miriley Simon have already had several colleges offer them. How have you seen them improve over the years? What are some aspects of the game that you think they will add this year?

Chloe and Miriley are two special players. They will go down as two of the best players to play at West Fargo. They have improved their hunger and desire to get better. Both have put in a lot of time working on their 3 point shot which will make them difficult to defend. They will be relied upon heavily and I believe they will be able to produce even with them being on top of every team's scouting report.

Who are some of the players that you anticipate will compliment Pfau & Simon?

We have quite a few players that I believe will compliment Chloe and Miriley. Our team will be looking to our other guards to help create opportunities for our team - Taylor Van Winkle and Brylie Peterson. Taylor is an exceptional defender and Brylie is an elite athlete. We will be looking for them to have breakout seasons. Senior Jessica Walsvik will also do a nice job this season. She is an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker. We are looking for her to be an enforcer. We are hoping to add some shot making and dynamic defense from Joslyn Jackson, Solvieg Seymour, Emily Klaman, Jasmine Williams, and Uche Eyiumegwu.

To boil it all down, what would make the upcoming season a successful one?

Our long term goals will be to compete for and EDC title and make the state tournament. The Packers haven't been to state since 2016 and we are hoping to end that drought in 2022. In order to achieve our goals, we will encourage our team to focus on the most important game: the next one.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about your program or players?

Our program is blessed with a terrific group of assistant coaches who do an incredible amount of work in order to make sure we are successful.

We have an awesome group of girls who are eager to work hard and get better and a terrific parent group as well. We are looking forward to the season.

Thanks again coach!
