FFGB: Week 5

For the year's that this site has been in existence I've kept it about Fargo area sports as close to 100% of the time as I could. Did I mix other things some times and make parallel's that extend beyond the field, court & track? Absolutely, but only when the comparisons and inclusions made sense to me. Until now that is.

I'm quite certain that talking Fantasy Football will still be relevant to many of you but I admit that it has little to do with the prime directive.

I've talked Fantasy ball for almost half my life but being able to talk about something does not as naturally translate to the keyboard as you may think. Now that the season is under way, I've decided to lock in on the four key aspects of running a Fantasy team. There's a bit of tongue in cheek with the four categories but each are my personal recommendations for this week. All player considerations will be based on ownership and usage in Myfantasyleague leagues

"PPR, pick up Jaylen Samuels or keep Gore?"

Tennessee has a solid defense and then Gore will be on the bye so I get the question but then the Bills hook Miami. If he's still healthy at that point, he'll punish his college town. Two weeks after that they get woebegone Washington and then Miami again. Pittsburgh doesn't exactly have a murderers row of it's own on the schedule but I consider it a tougher road than Buffalo's.

"Is OBJ for Chris Carson a good trade? I'm receiving Carson & need a RB. My other WRs are TY, A Robinson, McLaurin and Tate."

That's a solid group of receivers but even with the need at running back, it would be a downgrade for your team. If you're really okay trading Beckham, I would suggest doing it after he blows up so that you could get someone even better than Carson.

"In a half-point PPR, would you trade Zach Ertz for Melvin Gordon? I have D. Waller as a backup."

Gordon could explode for the rest of the season since LAC has needs on offense and with another top 5 TE on your roster, I understand why you would consider it. I'm skeptical of players who hold out for that much time because it always seems like they sustain an injury that lingers. If you could make the deal for a back that's already going, at the very least I would be on the fence about it but as things stand I wouldn't make that trade.

"I’ve got Miles Sanders and Devin Singletary, do I drop either for Ronald Jones?"

Jones seems to be coming into his own and both of your current backs have question marks. Figuring out the Philly backfield has become as difficult as New Englands but I'm not sure Jordan Howard has what it takes to hold off Sanders for the whole season. Singletary has missed some time and is going to be on bye after Sunday but then the chance to feast opens up. Maybe Gore will continue to take touches or maybe the rookie will be given the opportunity and will take control of the position since he represents more of the future for the team. All in all, that's quite a quandary, but on the bright side, I don't think you can make the wrong choice. The oddest man out to me is Sanders but I don't have a ton of confidence in that.

"Who should I start, Allen Robinson or Phillip Dorsett?"

While Oakland is getting worse by the week, they don't have anything on Washington. Start Dorsett with confidence.

I hate to say it as a fan of the Purple but Chicago may have found a better option than Trubisky to run the offense. Chase Daniel will have time to prove it and if he does, Taylor Gabriel will be a key factor. He missed last week with a concussion but when he gets back, possibly as soon as Sunday against Oakland, he could be the spark that's needed. With less than 39% ownership, he's an easy choice this week.

Following a great start to the year, John Ross has returned to his previously ineffective form. If that weren't enough, now he's looking at several weeks off for a shoulder injury. He's a safe drop in all formats.

Far from the ringing endorsement that the title would suggest, Jordan Howard is the closest player that I can come to a must-start. His monster week 4 will likely not be replicated but maybe it will be enough for him to distinguish from Miles Sanders this week, maybe.

Another enigma is Calvin Ridley. He has the talent to explode any week but after two bad weeks and with a decent Houston defense on the horizon, I've got much higher confidence that it won't be this weekend than that it will be. He should be no higher than a flex for you and a moderately desperate one at that.

Still having fun?

A quarter of the way through the season, a lot has happened. For some of you, the playoffs are already all but out of the question. For many others, you've had some bad breaks and are middling. So I ask again, are you still having fun? That's what it's supposed to be about but it so often isn't, unfortunately.

But that's all for now.

Until next Tuesday, happy Fantasy hunting!
