Potatoes Mash

After Brainerd & Moorhead exchanged punts over the first three possessions of the game, using only 3.5 minutes, the Spuds had the ball & quickly washed that start away. In 105 they had moved downfield and Trey Feeney completed his first touchdown of the night to Jacqui Fitzpatrick.

The defense continued their torrid pace this season by forcing a third Brainerd punt, after a sack created a 3 & 28 with their backs against the end zone.

The short field that followed was quickly covered by the offense, as Feeney connected with Blake Walthall for his first touchdown.

Rinse & repeat

After another punt, Moorhead made it three straight touchdown drives as Feeney tossed another score before the quarter break.

Brainerd had the ball through the transition but pressure by Jackson Gotta lead to another punt. To avoid being too much more repetitive, all that Brainerd managed to do all night, with precious little exception, was punt the ball away.

Moorhead turned the next possession into a fourth-score, this time to Brady Walthall.

Brainerd was able to put together their best possession so far, but after a few first downs the same result occurred again.

On the contrary, even when Moorhead found itself in a 4 & 12 after a mishandled snap, Trey Feeney connected with Blake Walthall for a first down to the 13. One play later and Blake had another catch, while also showing the sort of mentality that would have had this team competing for a state title in a different year. Instead of taking a pass near the sideline & going out of bounds to avoid contact he fought for every yard he could and then, even when it seemed like he would be short, he dove & managed to get the ball across the line while simultaneously holding himself up with his free hand.

That connection reared again on their next possession as the Spuds capitalized on another short-field after the punt return. 42-0 & in cruise control.

For good measure, or something, Moorhead opened the third quarter with one more touchdown. Feeney's pass was deflected in the end zone, but as another proof that it was their night, it ended up with a black jersey. The ensuing PAT was tipped at the line & deflected off the left upright to conclude the evenings scoring at 48.

Due to the running clock in the fourth quarter, backups being in for both teams and a fumble being recovered in the third, Brainerd's technical time of possession may have been inflated, but they were unable to turn any of it into points.

Moorhead 48, Brainerd 0

7 touchdowns.
